Our Mission Statement: To record as much information as possible about the conditions aboard the Hell Ships.
Objective 1: Provide a search containing the names listed in the back of The Oryoku Maru Story.
Objective 2: Provide access to the results of the war crimes trials dealing with the Hell Ships.
Purpose: Much of the information presented here comes from a compilation by four survivors of the Oryoku Maru "in hopes that, by its very existence, we might find other survivors and to advise relatives of the non-survivors the true story of the Oryoku Maru."
"The horrible facts brought out in this document are true and are not intended for pleasant reading; however, it is a story that must be told, and wider distribution should be made available to relatives of those who did not return."*
[*The Oryoku Maru Story, prepared by:
- Charles M. Brown, Lt. Cl. AUS Ret.
- Loyd E. Mills, Lt. Col AUS Ret.
- Edward Konik, Maj. AUS Ret.
- Arthur G. Beale, Cdr. USN Ret.
- Edward Fisher, DBC Liaison Officer]
And so to this end we have created this Web site. Its primary purpose is to follow through on Mr. Brown's wish that family of the non-survivors have access to the story. It has a second purpose too. That is, to educate and inform those who don't know about what happened.
